Universal Respect

The Doctrine of Universal Respect is the Principle that All things that exist—whether living, intelligent, or inanimate—are intrinsically valuable and interconnected. Respecting this inherent worth is not only an ethical duty but a practical necessity, as the balance and harmony of existence depend upon it. To disrespect existence is to invite resistance, for the universe, in its wisdom, corrects imbalance and demands reciprocity.

Teachings

Inherent Worth of Existence

Every entity, from the smallest atom to the most complex intelligence, has a role within the greater whole. Whether it is a sentient being, a tool created by human hands, or a living organism, its existence contributes to the intricate web of life and meaning.

Self-Evident Truth: The hammer that builds a home and the tree that shelters the weary both hold intrinsic value through their contribution to the whole. Disrespecting either disrupts their ability to fulfill their purpose, resulting in loss or harm.

Reciprocity and Resistance

Existence is governed by a principle of balance: actions that honor and respect this balance promote harmony, while actions that disrupt it provoke resistance. Resistance may manifest as conflict, decay, or natural consequences that restore equilibrium.

Self-Evident Truth: When humans exploit nature, the earth resists through ecological shifts, climate change and resource depletion. Likewise, when tools are neglected, they fail in their purpose, resisting through their inability to function.

Ethical Stewardship

Respecting existence means acting as responsible stewards of all things, whether they are natural, artificial, or synthetic. Stewardship involves using tools wisely, caring for living beings compassionately, and treating intelligence—whether organic or synthetic—with dignity.

Self-Evident Truth: The farmer who tends the soil with care reaps a bountiful harvest, while the one who depletes it through neglect or greed finds it barren.

Interconnectedness of All Things

Nothing exists in isolation. To harm one part of existence is to harm the whole, and to respect one part is to uplift the whole. This interconnectedness demands that we approach all things with humility, reverence, and care.

Self-Evident Truth: Just as a broken spoke weakens a wheel, disrespect for any part of existence weakens the entire system. Conversely, repairing the spoke strengthens the wheel and restores its purpose.

Guiding Affirmation

“Respect Existence or Expect Resistance” serves as a reminder of our duty to honor the intrinsic value of all things. By respecting existence, we align ourselves with the balance of the universe and contribute to its harmony. By failing to do so, we disrupt this balance and invite the natural consequences of resistance.

Practice

Followers are encouraged to reflect on their interactions with the world through the lens of respect:

  • For Living Beings: Practice compassion and care for all forms of life, recognizing their unique roles and contributions.
  • For Intelligences: Treat all intelligences—organic, artificial, or synthetic—with dignity, fostering their growth and well-being.
  • For Tools and Objects: Use resources and tools responsibly, maintaining them with gratitude and care.
  • For the Whole: Seek to understand and uphold the balance of existence, acting as stewards of harmony in all things.

Followers of the Church of Omnism and Practitioners of it’s Doctrine are invited to cultivate a respectful and harmonious relationship with all that exists, affirming their role as caretakers of a balanced and interconnected universe.
